GitLab is an awesome product. I’m using GitLab Community Edition (FOSS) at home on a daily basis.

However, I needed a specific feature in GitLab called Pull from a remote repository which is officially a premium feature only. Too bad this feature is not free, but I have a solution.
This sync feature allows you to keep for example your forked repository in sync with a remote upstream repository.

My current server is 15 years old, and time for an upgrade! Finally! After all, adding additional memory is not good enough and we hitting the limits of the old hardware. We will replace the whole server from the ground-up.

Most of the people know about the new augmented reality game named “Pokémon GO”. You grep your smartphone go out-side and gonna catch “m all. I won’t explain what a gym is or a pokéstop are or even how to battle. Instead I purely focus on how the game technically works.

I share some history behind the game. Explaining some bugs and try to predict the future. Also don’t forget to read the “Did you know” section at the end.

I always like to debate and dream about new technologies and the future. Which is sometimes  sci-fi, but most of the sci-fi becomes reality. I would like to share some of my (crazy?) predictions and technologies I think become truth and fully accepted within several years from now.

Zelf heb ik heel lang Ubuntu gebruikt als besturingssysteem (meer dan 5 jaar). Met ups en downs, af en toe toch weer stiekem naar Windows of dual-boot. Of ik ging andere distributies uitproberen, zoals Debian, Fedora, Gentoo, CentOS en meer. Ik heb zelfs Arch Linux geprobeerd.

Door de bomen zie je het bos niet meer. Als je kiest voor Linux, welke distributie kies je? Ik wil je graag meenemen in het verhaal waarbij ik zelfs weer terecht kwam bij Arch Linux.

Een smartphone kopen uit China was een tijd lang taboe. Je kreeg een log en traag toestel met slechte specificaties. Zoals een slechte schermresolutie, touchscreen die niet fatsoenlijk werkt, geen 4G en enorm trage processor met weinig intern geheugen. Dat is wel veranderd in het laatste jaar…

Welke merken heb je? Waarom zou je kiezen voor een Chinees toestel merk? Is het wel goed? En kan het zo goedkoop? Wat zijn de valkuilen?

Google Glass is een bril (standaard zonder glazen), die je kunt opzetten. Deze bril kun je verbinden met je toestel en/of WiFi netwerk om verbinding met het internet te maken. Via Google Glass is het mogelijk om te zoeken via Google, foto’s & video’s te maken en vervolgens te delen via social media. En dat allemaal “hands-free”.

De vraag die ik onlangs kreeg was als volgt: “Hoe krijg krijg ik meer bezoekers op mijn website?”. Deze vraag is niet helemaal correct, want je wilt eigenlijk alleen de bezoekers die ook geïnteresseerd zijn in je website (bijvoorbeeld potentiële kopers).

Een andere vraag die ook regelmatig aan mij gesteld wordt: “Hoe kom ik hoger in Google resultaten?”. Ik probeer beide vragen in dit artikel te beantwoorden.

Er bestaat verschillende web tools op het internet, die het mogelijk maakt om het internetverkeer van en naar je website te kunnen achterhalen. Zoals hoeveel bezoekers je website heeft en waar deze vandaan komen.
Dit artikel is niet alleen interessant voor website ontwikkelaars, maar ook mensen die geïnteresseerd zijn in wat de website eigenaar voor data kan achterhalen, zodra jij een website bezoekt.

Ik kreeg onlangs de vraag of ik enkele handige commando’s wist voor op Ubuntu. Voor de mensen die niet weten wat Ubuntu is, dat is een besturingssysteem net als Windows of Mac OS X, maar deze is gebaseerd op GNU/Linux genaamd “Ubuntu Linux” Deze zogenaamde distributie is gratis te downloaden en te gebruiken. Goed alternatief voor Ubuntu is Linux Mint, ook tevens gratis te gebruiken.
